10 things to know about Kapuso Therese 'Teri' Malvar

Another GMA Artist Center's teen actress is now making waves again in the movie scene, Therese 'Teri' Malvar as she stars in the horror flick "Ilawod". In the movie,  Therese plays the role of Isla, a malevolent water spirit that haunts innocent victims and lures them into danger.

The young Kapuso actress started her career in the indie scene which earned her local and international recognition. To get to know more about Therese, here are 10 interesting facts which you probably did not know about her:

1. Therese 'Teri' won the Best Actress trophy in the first CineFilipino Festival Awards for her role in "Ang Huling Cha Cha ni Anita". Among other nominees were Nora Aunor and Eula Valdez.

2. When Teri was cast for the lead role in "Ang Huling Cha Cha ni Anita", she had no acting background other than joining declamation contest in her school. She wasn't even supposed to audition for this film.

3. At the age of 13, she is the youngest nominee of the Gawad Urian Awards for Best Actress.

4. Last year, she took home the Best Actress Award at the 15th New York Asian Film Festival and 38th Moscow International Film Festival for her role in the indie film "Hamog". Along with actor John Lloyd Cruz, Therese is the first Southeast Asian actress to have won an award in the Moscow International Film Festival.

5. Despite her many projects, Therese does not neglect her studies. She is currently a Grade 9 student at the Sun Valley National High School in Paranaque.

6. In her free time, Therese unleashes her inner artist as she enjoys painting and doing calligraphy.


7. Therese is also a certified the book nerdy! Harry Potter series and Tuesdays with Morris are among her favorites.

8. Not known by many, the 16-year old actress has a hidden talent for singing.

9. Before she developed the passion for acting, Therese's dream was actually to become a nun.

10. Aside from Ilawod, Therese is also part of the indie film "Sakaling hindi makarating" showing in theaters this February 1.
